One from Me

Often, I perform for my students, but I never got around to it this quarter so here is a clip of a piece from a few years ago. It's inspired by yoga, and the energetic systems of the body. It's called Hallelujah.

It is becoming more and more clear just how much you like Rufus Wainwright ;-). I like how the quality of your movement matched the smooth undulations of the music. It made me think of water. I suppose the blue background helped that thought, though.

I loved how you transfered from move to move. Everything feel in one after the other with out much pause. It was so smooth. I really enjoyed it!

Louis that was amazing! I've never seen any sort of dance like that and it was so awesome. I've done some yoga and I definitely spotted the yoga moves in there. I also noticed how challenging some of the moves would be if you had a weak core. For example, when your leg is in arabesque and you move it around your body, that wold be tough to master without the core strength you've been teaching us.

Yes, Thomas I do like Rufus :P His voice is so unique. He's a very interesting artist.

YEAH LOUIS! I loved your focus and commitment to each move, no matter how simple. Rufus would be proud

Louis, it was captivating! The music complemented all of the moves so well, I definitely noticed the yoga moves, and I loved the little hand movement thing you did in the beginning and end. Awesome! And out of curiousity.. where did you perform this?

I was really intrigued and drawn in by the flowing motions and small, quiet, but powerful movements. The little hand flutters in arabesque pulled me, as an observer, up into the air with you. And wonderful choice of artist.

Louis, I swear you know how to pick the music that makes me bust a tear! You're killing me (but in a good way)!

Beautifully done - very innovative and dynamic. A wonderful combination of many things I've never seen combined before - in addition to the yoga you mentioned, there seemed to be miming (like a 'clown' in Cirque de Soliel), Tai Chi? A Southeast Asian dance form? You are certainly a natural story teller!

Very nice! I think your choreograpy is very unique, and I've read somewhere that you know how to mime- which I can see partially in this dance. and yep that song is wonderful, except Jeff Buckley sings it soo much better! (ha ha)

wow nice job. I see what you mean how it was inspired by yoga and the body systems. I really like your performance quality. Right from the second I met you it just seemed like you were a great performer, facially and emotionally. Those things are so important and so often forgot about. You're inspiring. :)

That was captivating to watch! And it went so well with the song! Your choreography is truly incredible. I have thought that since our first barre and floor exercises but this is really creative and innovative. You really have a tallent when it comes to dance. I would love to see more, after all the use of youtube this quarter I might have to go searching your name and hope more pops up! I loved the use of yoga in that piece. After all we learned this quarter, I can even see how the technique and importance of ballet training played a big role in your ability to master a piece like this. I hope your dancing career takes you far in this world! Much luck!

I am so excited to take modern from you next quarter...I have a good feeling about this.

I agree with Bergman about being drawn in by the small, quiet yet powerful movements. I liked how that song is kinda soft, but has some really powerful moments which you respond to in a gentle way. I thought it was an appropriate approach.

p.s.
Hey Mami, you sexy.

the movement is so soft. Every single movement from the video,i can see very clear. I believe if i want to become a good dancer, i have to make my movement become more smooth and soft. I really enjoyed to watching it.

Amazing. Everything is so controlled, yet it seems so easy with the way each move flows into the other. I can see why you talk about core strength in class all the time because that definitely would require it. I really like this.

Louis you are such an amazing dancer! Even in a youtube video you can see the passion and expression that you dance with. Even in class when you demonstrate combinations for us you have an incredible talent at moving and dancing. I enjoy watching your dancing so much!

I am a fan of your dance secretly..
Your dance seems quite natural, casual and sophisticated. It has a beauty of simplicity which I and most Japanese love.

You are such a captivating dancer! My first time taking yoga was this quarter and oh yes was it inspired by yoga. Very cool.

I really liked this piece. The music, your movements and everything came together really well. I've never taken yoga but I don't think it matters, I definetely think your performance told the story! Nice job!

Louis, thank you for your conviction and commitment demonstrated throughout your piece and throughout the quarter. Your movment was seamless in that the qualtie of your emotion shined through the extensions of your body and the transitions in and out of each pose. I recognized triangle, tree and parts of the sun saluatation. I practice yoga too and often integrate yog into my movement as well. Thank you for being an inspiring example of what truly dancing can feel like and how to truly invest and engage with dancing ballet, dancing and music. You highlighted the fundamental key to performing: investing yourself authenticly with the movement.
Grazie!/ Namste :)

Louis, that was excellent! Your energy and emotion bring so much to your dancing and really demonstrate what you were teaching us about this past quarter.

That was very fun to watch, and beautifully put to Rufus :) Even though it would have been amazing to see you perform for our class live, I feel like you did that several times this quarter when showing examples of combinations, and I truly enjoyed watching you perform. Your love of dance and expression is evident, encouraging and lovely!

I really enjoyed the music and choreography mix. The song is so pretty, and I can see the extrinsic relationship between your choreography and the song. I am learning about these music and dance relationships in Dance 242. It is cool to see you perform, and I am looking forward to having you next quarter in modern dance.
